The 529 Savings Plan

01.The Tax-Free College Account

To help families save for education, the US government created a special account called a 529 plan. When parents put money into a 529 account, they can invest it in stocks and bonds to grow. The magic is that all the growth is completely tax-free as long as the money is used to pay for college!

02.State Tax Perks

Many states also give parents a discount on their state income taxes for contributing to a 529 plan. It's a double bonus: you save money on taxes today, and your savings grow tax-free for tomorrow!

03.What Can You Buy?

529 money can be used to pay for tuition, housing, books, computers, and even trade school supplies. If a kid decides not to go to college, the parents can transfer the account to a brother, sister, or other relative.
