MARKETPLACES • Income received for goods or services via third-party payment networks or third-party settlement organizations is subject to taxation. • E.g., Cash App, Paypal, Venmo. • Card/App providers report transactions on Form 1099-K. • Reporting occurs at 200 transactions totaling $20,000 or more. • Gifts and reimbursements are not income. • User should indicate “non-business” in the app when possible • Crowdfunding has become a popular way to collect small donations from a large number of donors • Taxable if donations are received from an employer • Amounts received exceeds $20,000 (more than 200 transactions from Card/App providers) will be reported on IRS Form 1099-K
