Financial Security and FDIC
01.Safe Banking Infrastructure
In the United States, commercial bank deposits are protected by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), which is an independent agency of the federal government. If an FDIC-insured bank fails, you are guaranteed to get your money back, up to $250,000 per depositor, per institution.
02.Credit Unions and NCUA
Credit unions offer similar government protection. They are insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) for the same $250,000 limit. Always look for the FDIC or NCUA logo when choosing where to place your savings. Never keep large amounts of cash at home!
03.Avoiding Affinity Scams
New arrivals are often targeted by scammers who speak their native language or pretend to belong to their community. They may offer 'secret' investment deals or promise quick visas. Verify everything through official channels before transferring funds.
