01.Free Application for Federal Student Aid
To get government grants, work-study programs, or federal student loans, students must submit the FAFSA during their senior year of high school. The FAFSA calculates your family's financial need.
02.Immigrant Parent Considerations
To qualify for federal aid, the student must be a US citizen or eligible non-citizen (such as a green card holder). However, the parents' immigration status does not affect the student's eligibility. Parents without an SSN can sign the form using special verification steps.
03.Early Submission
Financial aid is often distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Submit the FAFSA as early as possible after it opens in October to maximize your child's financial package.
