Checking Accounts & Bank Routing
01.The Routing and Account Numbers
At the bottom of every paper check, you will see two main numbers. The Routing Number is a 9-digit code identifying your specific bank. The Account Number is your unique personal number. You will need both numbers to set up direct deposits or pay bills (like credit cards or electricity) online.
02.Understanding Debit Cards
A debit card pulls money directly from your checking account. When paying in stores, you will enter a 4-digit PIN. Debit cards do not build your credit history, but they are essential for cash withdrawals and basic payments.
03.Writing Paper Checks
While digital payments are common, paper checks are still used for rent payments and contractor fees. Learn how to write the numerical amount, spell it out on the middle line, sign it, and record the transaction in your check register to avoid overdrafts.
